The very first page of this booklet shows some important information. It has my name and address. It shows my health insurance policy number, and the date that this plan became effective. Insurance Agent Gets Six Years in Prison for Stealing from Clients

A (now former) insurance agent has been sentenced to 75 months in prison because she stole more than $1 million dollars from her elderly clients. She told them that she was reinvesting their money. In reality, she was spending it on things for herself. Everyone has had the experience, at least once, of getting a letter in the mail that says that your insurance company has denied your claim. When faced with a bill that you expected your insurer to cover, it is not unheard of to have less than positive thoughts about the insurance company. It is easy, in … Continue reading

Questionable Insurance Claims Are on the Rise

There has been an increase in insurance claims that are questionable, particularly from California and New York, but it is something that seems to be happening all across the nation, to some degree. Today, we moved onto the next step in the process. Yesterday, my husband and I called the insurance company that I have an old life insurance policy with. I guess I was expecting that all I would need to do would … Continue reading

Government Crackdown on Medicare Painkiller Abuse

The Department of Health and Human Services is trying to prevent people from using Medicare prescription drug plans to do “doctor shopping” for pain medication. This is part of the federal government’s efforts to combat fraud within the Medicare system. The term “doctor shopping” does not mean that someone is calling up different doctor’s offices on the phone, in an attempt to learn what they would be charged by that office for a standard visit. It doesn’t mean that someone is trying to discover which offices accept the person’s health insurance plan. Instead, “doctor shopping” is a term that refers … Continue reading
